Guest: Dr. Sajid Muhaimin Choudhury
President, The Optical Society – OSA Bangladesh Section
Chair, IEEE Photonics Society Bangladesh Chapter
Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology
Time and Date: 9:00 PM, Monday, 10 May 2021
On International Light Day2021, Society for the Popularization of Science Bangladesh has arranged a lecture on Nano Photonics titled Alor Kathamala(Light Talk).
Nanophotonics is the study of the behavior of light on the nanometer scale, and the interaction of nanometer-scale objects with light. It often involves dielectric structures such as nanoantennas, or metallic components, that use surface plasmon polaritons to transport and focus light.
Normal optical components, like lenses and microscopes, generally cannot normally focus light to nanometer (deep subwavelength) scales, because of the diffraction limit (Rayleigh criterion). Other techniques, such as surface plasmons, localized surface plasmons around nanoscale metal objects, and nanoscale apertures and nanoscale sharp tips used in near-field scanning optical microscopy (SNOM or NSOM) and photo-assisted scanning tunneling microscopy, can squeeze light into a nanometer scale. Nanophotonics discusses these topics.
You are cordially invited to this lecture.
